MIniaturized-Cell-Enhanced PhotoAcoustic Spectroscopy Drucken E-Mail

MICEPAS

Objectives
  • Development of laser spectroscopic techniques for sensitive detection of substances.
  • Adaptation of the techniques to the needs of Technology and Biomedicine.
Current Activity in the Field

Development of an ultrasonic photoacoustic spectroscopic technique powered by mid-infrared lasers (such as optical parametric oscillator, quantum cascade laser, carbon dioxide laser) for detection of trace gases. The activity is supported by International Science&Technology Center (ISTC) in the framework of ISTC B-1252 project (see project details in istc.ru

Principle

The principle of the laser photoacoustics is based on measuring the amplitude and the phase of acoustic pressure oscillation arising due to absorption of a modulated laser beam by molecules of gas inside an acoustic cell-resonator. Main our efforts in the Project are focused on creating a miniature cell-resonator. The miniaturization is expected to enhance the sensitivity of gas detection. The approach may facilitate essentially the detection of gas flows emitted by small-scale objects for a wide range of application in Technology and Life Sciences.

The photo shows our recent miniaturized photoacoustic cell. The volume of internal cavity is ~ 5 mm3. To the Project final, we plan to reduce the cell sizes tenfold.
